Home Sweet Home

It's taken quite a while, but I've finally taken some pictures of our cute little abode. It also gave me an excuse to play with my new Photoshop actions.

These pictures are a brief tour of my favorite parts of our tiny apartment.

Kitchen
I found this cute little hutch in my grandma's basement. My mom painted it and I found all these jars at thrift stores. I love this little hutch, it makes me so happy. Sadly, the lighting was less than ideal,  so it looks pretty grainy. Oh well, you get the idea.

Living Room
I am also in love with this trunk. It was my mom's when she was little and it has cute vintage wall paper lining the inside. It will probably be re-purposed for holding toys someday... Again, it is one of my favorite things in our apartment.

Although bikes are not really my idea of decorating, our road bikes ended up taking a whole wall of precious space. Aaron said that displaying our bikes for every one to see will make us look "legit." He said we'll get more friends.

Bedroom
I made this Damask headboard a long time ago, around two years ago. But, no matter where I move it still finds a place to be useful. My dresser is also from my grandma's furniture collection and, of course, I have my air purifying plant. I can't tell you how much I love plants. Especially this one; it is an air purifying plant.

I bought this book from a thrift store ( $1.00) and created this little piece of artwork. I don't know why I love it so much, but it brings a certain artsy-feel when I'm laying in bed reading a book.

Bathroom
One of the things I love most about the aesthetics of our apartment is the tiling in the bathroom and kitchen floor. It looks so nice and it's easy to clean.
I bought the shower curtain from Worlds Market around 4 years ago, but when I moved in to women's housing there was always someone else who already had a curtain. I finally get to use my shower curtain! Oh  the things that bring me joy.
The sign hanging over the toilet is compliments of Aaron. It took him a lot of persuasion to get that thing hung on the wall.  Every time I go to the bathroom I am reminded of our first fight. And then I laugh because it was absolutely ridiculous.

  2. Jessica. I love you. You are so darling. I was just catching up on your blog and I love all your pictures and everything you say. I wish I was a morning person and could cook or at least wasn't so lazy that after being married for 10 years I still struggle with household/motherly things. Hopefully your blog will be inspiring enough to get me off my butt. I love your post about child development. The one on the brain has me determined to be more patient with my emotional 7 year old and my inquisitive 5 year old and my 16 month old SCREAMER. He is my first screamer and I don't have a clue what to do. Most of the time I try to figure out what it is he wants as quickly as possible and rip whatever it is out the hands of whoever has it. Just kidding, but seriously he is going to be so spoiled and is learning that if he screams I will move mountains to make it stop. Learn anything magical in that area yet? I love that your mom BUILT drawer organizers for you when she came to visit. Once when I was little she came to visit and passed by my room where I was supposed to be cleaning. She came in and asked what I was doing and I can remember being sent to my room to clean growing up and just messing around because I just did not know where to start and it felt so hopeless. I'm sure you were born at the time and might have even already had a brother or two. But your lovely mother took the time to help me clean my room and explained to me that everything needs to have a place. I am still messy and struggle with hoarding! But I think about that experience with your mom and what she taught me all those years ago every single time I clean. So it is no surprise that you are such a wonderful woman after growing up with her and being influenced by her example every day. My kids got into a American Leadership Academy in Gilbert AZ and we are moving over there soon. Gwen, who fights the idea of homeschool told me two days ago that she for sure wants to homeschool for 3rd grade. So we will see if it sticks!

    1. Thank you Suzy! I'm starting to slack off so we'll see what I'm doing in 10 years... haha. I'm glad you enjoyed the post about child development. I will keep my eye out for anything specific to what Cash is doing :) we have access to hundreds of books at my internship. I remember my mom telling me about that story. Honestly, that was a story that convinced me that I wanted to study child development and how to better interact with children. That's awesome! It must be a pretty hard school to get into. Tell Gwen that I loved being homeschooled, it gave me all kinds of opportunities. By the way, Aaron and I were laughing over the post about Comicon :) amazing.
