Saving Money at Old Navy (and Gap)

As most of you know, I have worked at Old Navy since 2010.

It is a great place to work and I don't think I'll ever quit: they are very flexible with your schedule, have  phenomenal employee discount, and the managers make it a fun work environment.

During my time working there I have learned a few tricks, and in hopes of helping other people I'm going to share a few of them today!

  • Sign up for the email list. I know some of you don't want to be bothered with emails, but Old Navy sends sale reminders and coupons on a weekly basis. If you decide you don't want them you can always unsubscribe. This also helps a lot for price adjustments (see below).
  • We scan coupons right off your phone, so you don't have to print them! Plus, you don't have to worry about carrying all your coupons with you.
  • Sometimes you can combine coupons, so always ask. If you can't combine certain coupons, make separate transactions.
  • If you shop at Old Navy or Gap a lot, consider signing up for an Old Navy or Gap in-store credit card. I promise I'm not getting paid to endorse their credit cards, it's just a great deal if you shop there often. Here are the reasons it is a good idea:
    • For every $200 you spend at a Gap Inc. store you get a $10 reward card.
    • Cardholders get special sales and coupons, and for big sales (Stuff & Save, Flip Flops) cardholders get to shop a day earlier than anyone else!
    • You get 10% off every Tuesday.
  • Keep up on sales because if you bought a full-priced item within 14 days of it going on sale, you can take your receipt in and have the difference returned to you. This is called "price adjustment" and I have seen people get up to $30 back from just one receipt!
  • Look for "Act Fast" items (orange sign): these are brand new items that are on sale for less than clearance. For example, a $29.99 dress that is Act Fast sale for $15 will go on  clearance a few weeks later for $22.97.
  • Markdowns are on Sunday and most sales start on Thursdays. Check those days (or the days afterward) to find the best selection of sale items.
  • Buy reduced gift cards on the internet and then use them along with coupons for double the savings. Here are some places you can buy reduced-price gift cards:
  • Sometimes the system won't let you use coupons with certain methods of payment (i.e. Reward points must be used with an Old Navy card) which makes it difficult to use gift cards and coupons at the same time. Here's how you do it:
    • First, ask to have $5 put on your Old Navy card (or other required form of payment)
    • Second, put the rest of the amount on your preferred form of payment (gift card, cash, etc)

Hopefully this was helpful! If you have any questions or suggestions, please let me know!
