Maternity Photo Shoot

I wasn't planning on getting maternity photos. Mainly because I'm not planning on having them printed and I'm not a big fan of the cheesy, overused poses that are all over the internet.
However, since my mom is a photographer she convinced me to get at least a few photos to remember my first pregnancy, plus it wouldn't cost a thing!
So, after I found some outfits in my small suitcase and Aaron borrowed some clothes from my brother (it took a lot of bribery to get him into this yellow sweater) we headed down the road to find some good picture spots.
I personally edited my favorites, but if you want to see more you can check out my mom's Facebook page.

The cheesiest pose of the whole shoot :) but I still like it!

Here are some tips for taking maternity photos:

  • Look for unique, natural poses. There are tons of examples on Pinterest and photography sites. It's fun to take one or two cheesy photos, but don't make them the bulk of your poses.
  • Your clothes make all the difference!
Bring at least 2 outfits that really show off your belly; find something that flows (like an empire waist dress) and something that is tight (especially if your belly button pokes out). I found that the white lacy shirt in the first photo didn't show off my belly as well as the other two outfits, and lots of layers on top really down plays the shape of your belly as well as making you look a lot bulkier, so go for one layer, two at most.
  • Put on a lot more make up than you think is necessary! I used bronzer and blush to contour my face because it is puffy from all the extra water. Contouring is essential when you are pregnant because it really makes your face look a lot thinner than it is :) Trust me on this, you need a lot more make up for photo shoots than you think.
  • Lying down on your back makes your belly look a lot smaller than it really is, so take this into consideration when choosing poses.

  1. The "are you my mother?" pose is my favorite! Don't think that is cheesy! I recite parts of the book to my kids all the time.

  2. I think they turned out great!!
